Household chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, rechargeable/lead acid/button batteries (not alkaline), herbicides, auto fluids, propane tanks, pool chemicals, pesticides, and unwanted medications are accepted from households free of charge for safe disposal. Small fees will be charged for the recycling of tvs, appliances, and tires (over a certain number).
The Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District reminds residents that latex paint shouldn’t be brought to Tox-Away Day for disposal. It is water-based, so it’s safe to throw out with normal household trash after it has been solidified.
Televisions can be recycled at the cost of $20 per small tv and $25 per large/console tv. Computers, monitors, DVD players, printers/scanners, CD players, VCRs, cell phones, and GPS systems are all accepted free of charge.
For appliances with refrigerant, there is a fee of $10 each. For appliances without refrigerant, the fee is $5 per item. The first four passenger vehicle tires are accepted for free, with a charge of $2 per tire after the first four. There is a maximum of 12 tires allowed per event per household.
