On Labor Day weekend each year, the small town of North Salem hosts the North Salem Old Fashion Days. The northwest Hendricks County town celebrates traditions old and new during the 41st annual three day event.
The festival begins on Saturday with a smorgasboard breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church on Main Street. The largest parade in Hendricks County, the Old Fashion Days Parade, begins at 11 a.m. Kids entertainment includes bounce house, pony rides, and much more. Other festivities include:
- Hendricks County Chorus performance
- Pork chop dinner (10:30-3 p.m. at North Salem Christian Church on N California Street)
- Kiddie tractor pulls
- Live music
- 50/50 raffle drawings
- Line dancing
- Horse pull
- Gospel sing
- Bed race
- Truck pull
- Karaoke contest
- Car show
- Craft and food vendors
- Pie contest
- Perillo’s pizza eating contest
- Little Miss & Mr. Pioneer contest
Pet owners can enter their four legged friends in the pet parade on Monday. The 31st annual 5k/10k run/walk begins at 8:00 on Monday morning, taking runners and walkers on a brief tour of the countryside around North Salem with some moderate to difficult hills. Registration is $20 prior to September 1st. The fee goes up to $25 from September 1st to race day. T-shirts are included in the registration but can only be guaranteed if you register by August 22nd. All runners and walkers receive a free breakfast.
The Old Fashion Days Bicycle Tour is a casual ride that raises funds for the B&O Trail. Registration begins at 7 on Monday morning and the ride starts at 8 a.m. 13 and 30 mile routes are available. Ride fee includes hot breakfast or lunch.
North Salem’s Old Fashion Days will be held from September 3rd-5th, 2016. This is a great opportunity to explore a new area of beautiful Hendricks County!
