You’ve heard of farm-to-table dining, but what about tree-to-table? At the 9th Annual Maple Syrup Days event, you’ll have the opportunity to sample freshly made maple syrup from right here in Hendricks County.
The sugar maple trees at McCloud Nature Park will be tapped for their sap, which has a high sugar content. Staff and volunteers collect the sap and place it in an evaporator. The sap is then reduced into delicious maple syrup. You can see the whole process and even give it a try yourself during Maple Syrup Days!
Maple Syrup Days are March 2nd and March 9th, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at McCloud Nature Park. Visitors can tap the sugar maple trees, learn how to identify trees during winter months, find out about the early days of maple syrup, and even purchase McCloud Maple Syrup to take home. (All proceeds benefit the Hendricks County Parks.)
During Maple Syrup Days, you can also support The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County at the annual “all you can eat” pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 2nd and 9th, 2019. The pancakes feature McCloud Maple Syrup and breakfast also includes sausage, fruit salad, orange juice, and coffee.
The pancake breakfast is a freewill donation, and the suggested donation is $10/adult and $6/child. This is a popular annual event, so it is recommended that you reserve your seat for pancakes! The McCloud Nature Center has limited seating. You can reserve your spot by clicking here.
