There are always lots of great 5ks and other fitness events happening around Hendricks County, but this time of year is especially nice for outdoor activities. The weather is getting nicer (and more predictable) and the days are getting longer. If you’re looking for a fun outdoor fitness experience, here are two great recurring events to check out!
Yoga in the Park
Hendricks County Parks and Recreation and OMasana Yoga Studio have partnered to provide free yoga in the parks! These one-hour gentle yoga sessions are geared towards beginner and mixed-level students, ages 11 and up. Dress for the weather in clothes that move with you, and bring a water bottle or yoga mat/beach towel. Classes will be cancelled if the weather is bad. Three upcoming classes in the series are at Sodalis Nature Park (May 17, 6:00-7:00 p.m.), McCloud Nature Park (May 20, 4:00-5:00 p.m.), and Sodalis Nature Park (June 21, 7:00-8:00 p.m.).
Weekly Vandalia Trail Bike Rides
Are you a cyclist who wants to stay in shape or a beginner who wants to explore the Vandalia Trail? Greg Midgley is hosting weekly bicycle rides along the Vandalia Trail. The schedule is as follows:
Amo: 1st, 3rd, & 5th Tuesdays each money (meet at the trailhead at Railroad Street & Pearl Street)
Plainfield: 2nd & 4th Tuesdays each month (meet at Franklin Park, trail entrance by White Lick Creek)
The trail from Amo winds through countryside and small towns on the newly paved trail to the Hendricks-Putnam County Line. The trail is packed stone to Fillmore and possibly Greencastle depending on the group, with the longest trip being 23 miles.
The trail in Plainfield is paved and connects with other trails to form a loop around town. Round trip on the Vandalia trail and the town loop is about 15 miles. This section of the trail is operated by Plainfield Parks & Recreation.
