June 1, 2017 By Becky Trowbridge

If you’re looking for summertime fun, look no further than the Hendricks County Parks! A variety of programs are offered for all ages. The events are often free or presented at a low cost and range from guided hikes to astronomy! Whether your interests lie in art, science, nature, or a combination of the three, you’ll find plenty of great activities at your local parks.

McCloud Nature Park

Located in North Salem, Indiana, McCloud Nature Park covers 232 acres. Hike the 6.5 miles of nature trails, explore Big Walnut Creek, watch for birds, check out a 100 year old iron truss bridge, learn something new at the nature center, or simply go for a picnic with a view! Summer Day Camps are available for ages 2-5, 6-12, and 8-14.

Sodalis Nature Park

With 3.5 miles of trails and 210 acres, Sodalis Nature Park is also a great place to explore. Try your hand at catch-and-release fishing at the park’s 5 1/2 acre pond, which includes an ADA accessible fishing pier. Sodalis offers a wide variety of programs and activities. Located in Plainfield.

Vandalia Trail

The Vandalia Trail has trailheads in Amos and Coatesville. Check out the 4.5 miles of trail that is perfect for running, hiking, and mountain biking.
