Did you know that Brownsburg is part of a unique movement to fight back against Parkinson’s disease?
According to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, approximately one million Americans are living with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is a progressive and chronic movement disorder which can causes tremors, slowness of movement, stiffness of the limbs, impaired balance, and more. Symptoms worsen over time, but several studies have shown that exercise may slow, stop, or even reverse the progression of Parkinson’s.
Rock Steady Boxing is a unique nonprofit gym based in Indianapolis. The program is garnering nationwide attention for providing an effective form of exercise to individuals who are living with Parkinson’s. In many cases, this non-contact fitness routine helps these individuals continue to live independent lives despite their diagnosis.
The Brownsburg Rock Steady Boxing location provides exercise classes for individuals who are fighting back against Parkinson’s in a supportive and fun environment. Rock Steady Boxing classes focus on overall fitness. Classes include focus mitts, speed bags, heavy bags, jump rope, core work, ring work, double-ended bags, circuit weight training, and calisthenics.
Four different levels of classes are offered based on overall fitness and level of Parkinson’s. No boxing experience is necessary to participate. Participants complete an intake evaluation before their first class to determine their ideal class level. Some participants require a caregiver partner to assist in each workout.
If you or someone you love is interested in participating, Rock Steady Boxing encourages you to consult with your doctor prior to beginning an exercise program. Rock Steady Brownsburg is located at 1650 E. Northfield Drive, Suite 500. You can learn more about Rock Steady Boxing here.
