“There’s no place like the Fair!”
That’s the theme for the 2018 Hendricks County 4-H Fair, which takes place from July 15th-21st at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville. This popular annual event is one of the highlights of summer. The fair features 4-H exhibits, free live entertainment, carnival rides, games, food, and a variety of fun events, including:
- Car Show
- 4-H Fair Queen Contest
- Watermelon Eating & Seed Spitting Contests
- Hot Dog Eating Contest
- 5K Run & Walk
- Horse Pull
- Cheerleading Contest
- Youth Talent Show
- Little Mister & Miss Contest
- Pet Parade
Hendricks County Fair Got Talent is a contest featuring local vocalists. The preliminary competition will take place on Tuesday and Saturday. The final round is on Saturday at 5 p.m. on the State Bank of Lizton Free Stage.
Pioneer Day is on Sunday, July 15th. Sponsored by the Hendricks County Antique Tractor & Machinery Association, Inc., the day features a variety of contests for all ages, including homemade ice cream judging and a kid’s pedal pull.
There are a number of events at the Fleece Performance Grandstands, including Super Cross, antique tractor pull, rodeo, demo derby, truck/tractor pull, and the Indy Race Parts Outlaw Kart Race.
In addition to live music, there will is a variety of entertainment including:
- Bear Hollow wood carving demonstration
- Swifty Swine Racing & Swimming Pigs
- Carrie McQueen (stilt-walker)
- The High Diving Pirates of the Caribbean Show
- The Dynamo Dogs
- Hansen Spectacular Acrobatic Thrill Show
The Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Drive will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on July 7th at the Danville Farmers Market. Bring a non-perishable food item or donate $5 for a ticket to the Indiana State Fair. (Maximum of four per family.)
