Love ribs or live music? How about hot air balloons and activities for the entire family? The Hendricks County Rib-Fest and Avon Balloon Glow is just the ticket.
The Rib-Fest tradition began in 2005 and the annual event just gets better and better each year. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Kingsway Christian Church in Avon. The fun begins at 4 p.m. and continues until dark, ending with the Avon Balloon Glow as the sun sets (the balloons light up in time with with music) and a grand finale fireworks display.
Area restaurants compete for the titles of “Best Ribs” and “Best Sauce.” Food vendors will be on hand with food and treats for every palate. You’ll also enjoy live music, inflatables, games for kids, tethered balloon rides (tickets here), and much more.
If you’d like to work up an appetite before finding your favorite ribs, check out the Rib Run. Participants receive tickets for food and beverages at the Rib-Fest in addition to a race t-shirt and medal. Choose from the 5k and the Sloppy Rib Run (a 5k in which runners consume ribs at each kilometer). There is also a quarter mile fun run for kids.
Admission to the Hendricks County Rib-Fest and Avon Balloon Glow is free. However, be aware that there is a $5 charge for parking. You’ll also want to bring some cash for delicious ribs and more!
